Fransiscan Foundation for the Holy Land

SPECIAL NOTICE:
ON Saturday May 3rd, 2008 a very special event took place in Indianapolis. After seeing our Pope leave after his historic trip to our country, Archbishop Pietro Sambi, D.D. (The VATICAN AMBASSADOR to the USA) came to talk to a gathering of about 240 people here about something very important to our current Pope Benedict the 16th and to John Paul II (The Great). His talk was about the critical importance of the work being done through the Fransiscan Foundation for the Holy Land.

For those blessed to hear him speak, this unique mission came alive as he shared what it would mean to the entire Christian world if we lost the presence of an active and vibrant Christian population in that sacred part of the world where our tradition, history, and living Faith came to be. It would be an unimaginable loss to us and to future generations of Christians. We cannot let that happen. It is not a "foreign land". It is "Home" in the truest sense of the word for all who call Jesus, "Lord".

Father Peter Vasko, OFM, is president of the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land, an organization dedicated to helping the Christians living in the Holy Land to survive and prosper in the land of Christ’s birth, life, death and resurrection.

We were blessed to have Fr. Vasko visit our studio for this interview last year. He is a man on a mission: he wants to stem the exodus from Israel of the last members of the Christian community in that land. It is a difficult and important task. He needs our help! Please make the time to support their mission through your prayers... and please give sacrificially to help them financially.

Thank you and God bless!

Indiana’s connection to the International Apostolic Movement of Schoenstatt

It all started on October 18, l9l4, a German priest, Father Joseph Kentenich, and the members of the Marian Sodality under his care, made a Covenant of Love with the Blessed Mother. Father Kentenich wanted to work towards transforming the little Chapel of St. Michael into a Marian place of grace through the conscious co-operation of human instruments. He and the boys of the sodality, with their genuine striving for holiness, would prevail upon Our Lady "with gentle force" and draw her down to that place. Making use of every opportunity that arose - all of the little, insignificant things that go to make up everyday life - the boys began to bring their "contributions" to her little shrine so that she might work miracles of grace in men's hearts and thus renew the world.

Now men and women right here in have become a part of this holy work drawing <a href="http://www.holyspiritinteractive.net/features/somethingaboutmary/schoenstatt.asp"target="_blank">Our Lady of Schoenstatt down into hearts and homes throughout Central Indiana.

These Catholic moms share how this rule works in a practical way to help them with the challenging vocation of motherhood. “A Mother’s Rule of Life” authored by Holly Pierlot gives Catholic moms a way, a method “a rule” to bring order and peace to their home and bring their vocations as mothers alive. The book is available locally at Holy Family Books in Carmel 317-705-2468 or online at <a href="http://www.mothersruleoflife.com "target="_blank">www.MothersRuleOfLife.com

DAY AT A TIME

“DAY AT A TIME – An Indiana Girl’s Sentimental Journey to Doris Day’s Hollywood and Beyond” by Mary Anne Barothy.

In 1968 Mary Anne Barothy left her society reporter’s job ob the The Indianapolis News to fulfill a movie fan’s dream: She went to see, and work near her film idol Doris Day. She got to know Miss Day and their friendship evolved into a job for the Hoosier girl. Mary Anne served as Doris Day’s personal secretary for four years, part of the time in residence.

Mary Anne’s carefully kept notes as secretary and personal friend and scores of her personal photographs of Doris Day make this a book about a movie star that is lively, full of fascinating anecdotes, and detailed in it description of a time which will never come again – when movie stars could live as ordinary people. DAY AT A TIME has no shocking surprises. Doris Day played wholesome lovely girls with somewhat mischievous streaks in her screen roles. In real life, according to Barothy, that was truly what she was like. This book is a tribute to a wonderful woman who has brought the blessing of joyful smiles to so many of us!

For the past eight years Mary Anne has worked in Development with the Little Sisters of the Poor in Indianapolis and St. Augustine’s Home for the aged. She has been a member of the St. Augustine’s Guild since 2000.
